Phyllomedusa bicolor tree frog is the scientific name for Kambo also known as giant waxy tree frog. Kambo secretions are extracted from the frog by tickling the frog. Kambo is highly esteemed for the large amount of bioactive peptides and neuropeptides. When these peptides are introduced to the body, they provide an array of benefits including but not limited to chronic pain relief, alleviating symptoms of depression, and assisting in recovery from PTSD and addictions.
Indigenous tribes have utilized Kambo for curing sickness and removing 'panema' (negative energy). Tribes have also widely used Kambo prior to hunting, as it heightens the senses and brings a profound sense of physical and mental sharpness.
First, small blister points are burned on the skin to have an opening to apply the Kambo secretion. Prior to the application of Kambo, the client must drink 1/2 a liter of water. When the Kambo is applied the symptoms will come on quickly, within the first 30 seconds to a minute. In this time the symptoms may include fast heart rate, flush and increased body temperature, and numbness or tingling sensations. These sensations may last 5 to 7 minutes approximately. For the remainder of the session, there is a possibility of purging. Purging does not always happen to everybody and is not necessary to recieve the benefits of Kambo. After 20 minutes the Kambo is removed. The client will have time to recover and with rest and nourishment. In about 45 minutes, the client should feel well to resume their day.
